The microstructures and mechanical properties of high nitrogen 35CrMoV steel (HNS), a structural steel, through powder forge processes, are described in detail. As compared with the microstructures of the low nitrogen steel (LNS), the precipitated carbides in the HNS samples after 650 approx 670 deg C tempered were very fine and their distributions in the matrix were in a random way. Furthermore, many very fine precipitates were also observed in the HNS samples. The room tensile strengths of the tempered samples were increased compared with the standard strengths of LNS. Meanwhile the elongations of the samples were found to keep on the levels of the standard values of LNS
