Synthesis report Area C: People and forests in harmony

摘要

This area focused on models for managing forests sustainability by integrating human and forest considerations. Implementation strategies, forest policies, and institutions were identified as necessary improvements. Congress attendees discussed ways of building the capacity of institutions to conduct research, develop technology, and educate. In conclusion, participants put global thinking into action and shaped a future vision for bringing people and forests together in harmony. The models for sustainable management (C1) represent a program topic covering human organizational modes to achieve expected results. As such, participants tackled participatory decision making and management, consensus building, mechanisms for reconciling demands, partnership formulas and business models such as cooperatives, small and medium-sized enterprises and transnational. Also, participants considered integrated management, multiple use, and harmonization of productive and conservation functions. Examples of successful initiatives were used to illustrate promising approaches.
