Converter slag has become an important secondary raw material. Consequently, vanadium bearing converter slag is of great interest for the recovery of vanadium. A green technology to recover value metal compounds (VMC) from molten slags is proposed, in which the main step is the selective concentration of dispersed VMC into the designed mineral phase in molten slag. The features of the technology are economic, clean, intensive and comprehensive. Solidified converter slags are made up of three main mineral components: dicalcium silicate, calcium ferrite and wustite. Vanadium in modified slow cooling down converter slag of Magang is found mainly concentrated in a new separate mineral phase, with high vanadium content (19.35%, wt, V_2O_5), concentrating 69% of vanadium, which can be seen as the designed mineral phase for selective concentration, selective separation and then recovery of vanadium from converter slag.
