Reasons and Impacts of Overseas RD Activities of MNEs in China

摘要

In the last several years, China has become a hot land for many multinational enterprises to implement their overseas technology innovation and R&D activities. This paper explores in detail major reasons for this trend from six aspects. Benefits by those technology innovation and R&D activities are mainly characterized by so called spillover effects. However, there are still some potential threats hindering acquisition of those benefits. In light of our researches, some useful policy implications for Chinese government concerning how to attract more foreign investment in R&D sector and take the advantage of technology spill-over effects of FDI to facilitate technological catch-up processes are provided.
