The elastic core-shell latex particles of acrylic-styrene emulsion are synthesized by multi-stage seed emulsion polymerization. The latex particle size and the particle size distribution are determined by the method of dynamic laser scattering. The seed latex particles formed in batch polymerization have a larger particle size distribution, and the second stage latex particles formed in semi-continuous process have a smaller particle size distribution. The effect of main factors on the latex size and the size distribution is investigated and discussed. The membrane of acrylic-styrene elastic latex is obtained by the dipping process of ion deposition, and is tested with the elongation rate and the break intension. The important factors to affect the performance of the latex membrane are studied and discussed. The acrylic-styrene elastic latex can be blended with other latex, to improve the quality and the performance of the latex membrane, however, the stability problem of the blended latex may affect the related application. This article shows that the acrylic-styrene elastic latex emulsion, which possesses different expected performances in the related application areas, can be synthesized by the suitable controlling technology, and the performance of elastic latex membrane as well as the related product can be improved by latex blended method. The acrylic-styrene elastic core-shell latex can be mainly applied in the area of latex gloves, and the mechanics performance of latex gloves from the acrylic-styrene elastic core-shell latex and other materials is compared.
