Schema Based Approach of Mapping XML documents to Relational Database

Extensible Markup Language (XML) has been widely accepted as a standard medium for representing and exchanging data between various fields of business and scientific activity. As new technology, there is a need for an efficient storage medium to store these data format. One of the reasonable and widespread medium is the Relational Database (RDB) medium. Since of the technology gap between XML hierarchical ordered structure and RDB tabular unordered structure, there is a need to mapping approaches between them in both directions to leverage the advantages of the both technologies. In this paper, we study the schema based approach for mapping of XML documents to RDB, to highlight on the advantages and disadvantages to reach the optimal output of mappings in this approach.
