Using game technology for "serious" applications or more accurately games that educate, train, and increase knowledge is not a novel approach. Game engines provide much of the necessary software infrastructure and APIs to address almost any simulation or training need. Various terrains can be easily developed, players, characters and their behaviors can be designed to high degrees of sophistication and scenario complexity can range from the simple to the most complex. Using an open source 3D game engine the game Golden Hour was created to generate an incident response environment with the intention to train Emergency Medicine Technicians (EMTs) to better provide emergency care under arduous circumstances.
