Simulation Techniques for Visualizing Phenomena in a Body of Rotation

High-speed for rotating units of machine tools has been a hot issue because of a strong demand of high productivity. The superiority of high-speed rotating units is close relation with vibration and noise, and so on. In this paper, we propose four simulation techniques for visualizing phenomena (especially vibrations) in a body of rotation (typically high-speed spindles). We have used four copies of commercial software such as a dynamic simulation program of ADAMS, two analysis programs of ANSYS and ARMD, and a statistical program of MINITAB. We draw conclusion of dominant factors having influence on the natural frequency of the rotating body by using DOE (Design of Experiment) and MINITAB. In addition, we will propose practically important conditions of largely increasing the natural frequency.
