Meat quality offish highly depends on feeding (Steffens, 1989) and fillet fatty acid profile can easily be modified via dietary fat (Hoffman et al, 1995). Intensively reared Nile tilapia produces valuable meat which can be considered as a functional human food dontaining high amounts of n-3 and n-6 fatty acids. Bahurmiz and Ng (2007) found that dietary palm oil enrichment did not negatively influence the main production traits and the same was proven for meat quality by El-Hanafy et al. (2006) who applied maize and cod liver oil supplementation in the feed. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of three different dietary fat sources on the meat quality and fatty acid profile of Nile tilapia, evaluating conventional production traits as well.
