A FEASIBILITY/PROFITABILITY MODEL FOR COMMON OCTOPUS (OCTOPUS VULGARIS) ONGROWING UNDER INTENSIVE CONDITIONS ON LAND-BASED FACILITIES

Present day technology for octopus ongrowing is scant since its biological cycle in captivity has not yet been closed, meaning that production is based on catching juveniles in the wild, caging them and feeding them species of low commercial value. Given this situation, it is of particular interest to make economic studies as regards feasibility and a costs analysis to analyse both the present ongrowing system and any future alternatives. We present a feasibility/profitability model for estimating production-linked economic parameters even though they are not yet clearly defined for commercial octopus cultivation, such as final selling price, costs of obtaining juveniles and feed costs.
