Mercury and many other transition metal cations in the environment pose an extreme hazard to human health. A number of small molecule sensors have been developed for mercury and other cations[1]. Fluorescent, conjugated polymer chemosensors have been found to have several advantages over small molecule sensors including significantly enhanced sensitivity[2].
