A new kind of composite railway bridge deck has been developed in Belgium with precambered steel girders and prestressing forces. A bridge deck has been instrumented with strain gages and vibrating wire extensometers in June 2000. Strains measured in situ are compared with values predicted by the step-by-step method using the superposition principle and by the two-function method using a linear creep law for loading and a creep recovery law for unloading. The best agreement between measured and predicted values is found with the two-function method.
