This paper presents cases where important physics can be extracted from an experimental setup using a reduced version of a neutrino factory. The main case for neutrino oscillations would be if new experimental findings lead to the need of non-standard scenarios; for instance, if a MiniBOONE confirmation of the LSND claim can be explained by sterile neutrinos. In that case, very interesting physics, and even sensitivity to CP violation, could be reached with much smaller machines than in the standard scenario. Other applications of muon storage rings are possible in the search of lepton-flavor violation and in the measurement of cross section in low-energy neutrino interactions.
