UMTS TESTBED TU DELFT, 'FROM IMAGINATION TO REALITY'

This paper describes the experiences with the TU Delft UMTS testbed and covers its implementation path, the experiments (main working packages) that were executed and the obtained results. The testbed focuses on user experiences and not on the technical implementation issues. However we could not always separate these fields from each other. The way in which we coped with the implementation challenges will be treated as well. After a general description of the context, relevance and objectives of the UMTS testbed, a specific description of the UMTS testbed is given. Then we discuss the technical and organizational challenges. Finally a more detailed discussion of two major working packages, UMTS WLAN Integration and Security (UWIS) and Mobile Entertainment and Information Services (MIES) are given.
