After a brief introduction to light scattering and liquid crystal dynamics, that is, bulk orientational fluctuation modes and their coupling to light, several examples of confined liquid crystal systems like thin slabs, cylindrical cavities, droplets dispersed in polymers, and liquid crystals in random matrices are presented. The structure of fluctuation modes in confined geometries and light scattering on localized modes are discussed. In confined liquid crystal systems multiple scattering often occurs and the methods of diffusive wave spectroscopy must be employed. As examples study of interaction of liquid crystals with surfaces via light scattering and rotational diffusion of droplet orientation in polymer dispersed liquid crystals are presented.
