IMPLEMENTATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL MITIGATION PROJECT IN COAL INDIA EXPERIENCE GATHERED AND LESSONS LEARNT

During last around six years Coal India implemented an environmental mitigation project in 25 of its highly productive open cast mines. The project has been funded by the World Bank (IDA) grant to the GOI. The project was taken up. with three major approaches namely, Policy support, Institution building and Implementation. The author was involved almost right from the inception of the project. The paper has been developed as the title goes on experience gathered and lessons learnt during implementation of the project activities in the 25 opencast mines in five subsidiaries namely, CCL, NCL, MCL, SECL and WCL.
