Flubendiamide - a new insecticide for controlling lepidopterous pests

Flubendiamide, 3-iodo-N '-(2-mesyl-l, 1 -dimethylethyl)-N- {4-[l ,2,2,2-tetrafluoro-1 -(trifluoromethyl)ethyl]-o-tolyl}phthalamide is a novel class insecticide having a unique chemical structure compared to existing insecticides and acts through a totally new mode of action. Flubendiamide has high activity against a broad spectrum of lepidopterous insect pests. It shows excellent activity against adults and larvae, fast acting properties, and extended residual activity, mainly by ingestion. After foliar application on vegetables, fruits, rice, and cotton in field studies, flubendiamide provided superior efficacy over standard compounds. Since it shows no cross-resistance with conventional insecticides and is safe for beneficial arthropods in addition to superior field performance, flubendiamide will be an essential tool in IPM and insect resistance management programs.
