This paper shows results on the use of metakaolin and an industrial byproduct of the crushing process of aggregates in the strength of concrete.Coarse and fine aggregates were used,coming from an alluvial.The concrete designs were evaluated for the same 28 MPa strength.The main goal of this research is to use the aggregate byproduct and to compare the effectiveness of this against an admixture that has been studied to mitigate the alkaline-silica reaction phenomenon.Depending on the properties obtained,the filler can be used in hydraulic concrete formulations.Five formulations were prepared with the industrial by-product and the other five were prepared with metakaolin.The materials formulation were prepared by following the experimental design of a single categorical factor.On the other hand,a plasticizer was used,which helps to give fluidity to the concrete.21 cylindrical samples were made to obtain strengths from 3 days to 180 days.Samples were submerged in water during the whole time of the test.XRD tests were performed on the aggregate,the filler and the metakaolin,in order to determine their composition.The petrography test was carried out to the aggregates.Fine and coarse gradation,wear,specific gravity,absorption,organic material contents,lumps of clay and unit masses tests were also conducted.
