Angang's Countermeasures Against the Merger Consolidation of World Iron Ore Industry to Ensure the Sustainable Development of It's Steel Industry

Iron ore is a major kind of raw material for production of iron and steel industry, therefore, economic and stable iron ore supply is one of the preconditions for continuous development of iron and steel industry. Due to the special contribution of iron ore resources to the development of iron and steel industry, all the countries in the world have attached great importance to selection of the optimum policy for iron ore supply when they draw up strategy for development of iron and steel industry of their own countries, and based on the selected iron ore resource policy, they fix the allocation and the pattern for development of iron and steel industry. The demand of our country for iron ore has been increased significantly since its steel output broke through 100 million tons in 1996 and leaped to the first rank of large steel producing countries in the world, insufficient iron ore supply has become a more and more serious problem, which has brought about great change to the structure of resources of iron ore used for steel production, quantity of imported iron ore started to increase year after year, with its share climbing up unceasingly (see Table 1). Under such circumstances, to take advantage of the iron ore resources outside Chine has become a key link for ensuring iron ore supply.
