In the field of corrosion protection are ongoing developments of step-by-step replacements of environmentally critical pigments. New coatings have to fulfil not only these ecological but also technical demands and economic considerations. Concept and properties of a new bifunctional pigment based on titanium dioxide has been described in various systems. A waterborne pimer has been optimized by the combination of the new nontoxic anticorrosive pigment together with a small particle sized synthetic barium sulfate in respect of optical, mechanical and corrosion resistant performance.
