Are You Getting Your Money's Worth In Training?... How Competency-Based Training Delivers Better Value

Training today is a key investment for all leading companies. Major petroleum companies annually invest in as many as 50,000 training days or more to ensure their personnel are capable and competent to do their jobs, and, of course, get a few perks. If we were talking about a vessel or turbo-machine, we would use such terms as 'fit for purpose', or 'reliability', or 'integrity'. The annual value of the industrial training market is well over a billion dollars. In this presentation for the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association 2003 Maintenance Conference, I would like to present a working 5-step model for improving the return on your training investments. This 5-step training approach is in place and working well delivering competent people to the workplace.
