SO{sub}2 Control Materials of Construction for Wet Scrubbers Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) Applications in Wet Scrubbers

Wet Limestone scrubbing systems present significant challenges with regard to choices of materials of construction. Fiberglass Reinforced Plastics (FRP) have proven to be a very cost effective choice for many applications including process pipe, external recycle pipe, internal spray systems, duct, stack liners, storage tanks, and absorber towers. This paper will review the applications for FRP in these systems, discuss FRP material options and limitations, and review the applicable Codes, Standards, and specifications. Case histories will be presented to highlight the successful application of the material.
