The pumping stations can be considerate as playing a major role in a water distribution system. Due the fact that the energy consumption of pumping stations is the major cost element of tap water price for most distribution systems, this paper present the energetic optimum approach for the pumping station refurbishment. The case study is analyzing a raw water pumping station. The pumping station analyzed is, in fact, a pumping complex consisting from two different pumping stations. The PS 1 is the major pumping station of the complex and its problem is caused on one hand by advanced wear of pumps and, secondly, by the poor quality of vacuum system used for pump start-up. The paper presents the way of determining the refurbishment solution.
