Discussed in this paper are the following two aspects of the photophysics of ultraweak bioluminescence: (1) the possibility of coherence of biophotons and (2) the possibility of intercellular photon signalling. The kinetics of the photon reemission in the ultraweak intensity range, observed after exposing a cell suspension to light, is analysed in terms of stretched exponential relaxation. It is shown that the decay of fluorescence can be well described by the stretched exponential relaxation law requiring no coherence of the biophotons. It is shown that concept of intercellular photon signalling does not contradict the basic photophysical laws.
