INTEGRATION OF WIND POWER INTO THE FRENCH POWER SYSTEM

The European Directive 2001/77/CE has set indicative targets for each country concerning the share of electricity that should be produced from renewable energy sources. One way to achieve these targets is to develop wind power. This paper describes the main issues of the wind power integration into the French power system. At the beginning of the paper, the French particular situation is presented: wind power development context and connection procedure. Then, the paper focuses on the new issues associated with a future significant growth of wind power: connection requirements, network planning, wind power fluctuation and forecasting issues.
