Diamond cutting tools are well known in the field of machining natural stone material. There are some different diamond cutting methods like circular sawing, wire sawing and drilling. During the last 20 years cutting with bonded diamonds has been also invented for widespread applications in the field of concrete and reinforced concrete material at construction sites. This requires the development of a specific and effective lay-out of the cutting process (i.e. cutting speed, chip thickness etc.) and the cutting tools (i.e. diamond concentration). Due to these demands scratch tests with single diamonds have been carried out at steel and concrete material. Within this paper the results about machining forces and chipping factors in dependence on the material, the cutting speed and the chip thickness of the single diamonds are described and discussed. The results are the base for further developments of better cutting process within the application of cutting reinforced concrete material with diamond tools.
