Fine particle lanthanum chromite has been prepared by the combustion of aqueous solutions containing lanthanum nitrite, chromium (III) nitrate and urea in two stoichiometric amounts: Fuel (urea) stoichiometry, batch #1, and an excess fuel (urea), batch #2. The solutions, when heated up to 300°C, ignited and yielding gray-wish powder of crystalline LaCrO{sub}3. Powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction. The particle-size of powders produced by an excess of fuel (urea) were slightly smaller than those of fuel stoichiometry. The fine and also uniform particle size distribution ensured their sinterability. Pellets were sintered in air at 1600°C for 2 h achieved 95% of the theoretical density.
