The present work shows a study on stone cutting by sintered diamond mills. It aims to put into relationship the cutting force and the tool wear for different process conditions. The cutting force has been measured by a Kistler 9257 BA piezoelectric platform dynamometer. The outputs of the dynamometer were fed into an A/D converter (DAQCard-AI-16E-4) and sampled at high frequency by a PC. Then, the signals recorded by the PC were filtered by Matlab software at a low frequency. The wear of diamonds grits, called micro-geometric wear, has been characterised by a set of variables that has been put into relationship with mill performances. SEM has allowed to observe the diamond grit condition of wear after consecutive machining steps. The trends of the cutting force along the wear steps of the abrasive grits have been collected for different values of the process parameters. They allow to identify the best cutting conditions, which mean the values of the process parameters decreasing tool wear and cutting force. In the same time they allow to measure indirectly the tool wear by monitoring the values of the cutting force.
