Groundwaters containing excessive amount of fluoride are unsafe for drinking, because of its physiological effects on human health. Chemical analysis of 40 surface and groundwater samples collected from bore and dug wells in Kocherla vagu and Enumula vagu sub-basins of Dindi river basin revealed that fluoride concentrations in Kocherla vagu basin are higher than the Enumula vagu basin. In some villages in Kocherla vagu basin it is reported that people drinking high concentrations of fluoride waters are suffering from fluorosis disease. The present data of chemical analysis for one hydrological cycle is used to delineate areas of high fluoride in groundwater for drinking purpose. Out of 11 samples collected during pre and post-monsoon periods from Kocherla vagu basin, 7 samples are having high fluoride content ranging between 1.81 to 3.8 ppm. In Enumula vagu basin out of 29 samples 4 samples are having high fluoride concentration varying from 1.75 to 2.29 ppm during pre and post-monsoon periods. The high fluoride rich zones of dug wells and bore wells are localized around Yellikal village in Kocherla Vagu basin. In Enumula vagu basin, the high fluoride rich zones of dug wells are localized around Kondareddy palli and Tippareddy palli villages. Some of the people in these villages are affected bv Endemic fluorosis.
