Solid Carriageway and Mass-Spring-Systems in Austria

In the network of the Austrian Federal railway company OBB the use of ballast-less track systems started in 1982. After a first trial period a solid carriageway system with elastically supported base plates is now the standard system. To reduce noise and vibration emissions joint-less floating slab track systems are used. For optimization of noise and vibration protection measures a research project was launched and as a first practical application a mass-spring-system for switch areas was realised.
