This paper presents data for 34 elements in moss samples collected in the Transilvanian Plateau of Romania. A biomonitoring system employing the mosses Hypnum cupressiforme was used to determine the degree of metal pollution in different parts of this areas. The analyses were carried out by ENAA with the exception of Cu, Cd and Pb, which were determined by AAS.IAEA certified materials were used to ensure the quality of the measurements. Extremely high values were observed for Cu, Zn,As,Cd and Sb in parts of this territory affected by local industries. The levels are among the highest observed in most other countries of Europe using the moss technique.
