IMPACT OF INTENSIVE MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ON LONG-TERM SIMULATIONS OF FOREST RESOURCES IN GEORGIA

We describe an analysis of the impacts of intensive management practices on future wood production in Georgia. Forest inventory data for the analysis came from the USDA Forest Service Forest Inventory Analysis 1997 and 2000 surveys. Supplementary information came from various GIS and remote sensing sources including NASA Landsat TM 7 imagery. Management assumptions were based on published and unpublished literature and on interviews with experts in the area of forest management. Results suggest a large impact of the intensive management practices on the resource capacities in terms of harvestable volume production and the levels of sustainable harvesting limits.
