We consider the problem of universal scaling at the QCD transition in the case of two degenerate light-quark flavors, discretized with the staggered formulation. A comparison to the predicted O(4) scaling function can be made in an unambiguous way by a suitable normalization of the QCD data, using the observed scaling along the so-called pseudocritical line. We show that reasonably good scaling is obtained for the larger quark masses (thus supporting a second-order phase transition) and discuss possible reasons for the deviations from scaling at the smaller masses.
