To develop and demonstrate that ethylcellulose can be used as a high productivity sustained release coating in pharmaceutical dosage forms using a rotor process technology. Using a rotor process technology, ethylcellulose can be applied to drug layered beads as a dry powder; which enables the user to achieve high levels of weight gain in a short period of time and still demonstrate sustained drug release. Ethylcellulose material selection, modification, and rotor process parameters were optimized and its subsequent performance and cost was compared to traditional spray coating processes using organic solvents and ethylcellulose aqueous dispersions.
