A series of nickel–molybdenum (NiMo) catalysts supported on two different carbonnanofibers (CNFs) which were platelet(CNP) and tubular(CNT) were prepared by conventional impregnation method. CNFs treated with HCl and H H2O2 were also used as supports. Their catalytic activities were compared with conventional NiMo/Al Al2O3 in the deep hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of hydrodesulfurized gas oil. The NiMo supported CNT treated with HCl catalysts exhibited higher HDS activity for diesel fuel than the conventional NiMo/Al Al2O3 (NMALO) catalyst. However, large differences in catalytic behavior were observed for NiMo/CNFs catalysts dependent on the pretreatment of CNFs. The HDS selectivity of 4,6-DMDBT was found to be almost independent of the temperature.
