EFFECT OF CHLORIDES IN COAL CHARGES ON YIELD AND QUALITY OF COAL TAR

Taking into account final properties of carbonisation products, this project investigated effects of chlorides in coal charge.Based on recent experiments, five chlorides, NaCl, PbCl2, ZnCl2, CuCl2 and AlCl3, were employed for the investigation. A precursor, which had been impregnated by 5% wt. Concentration solutions of these substances, was carbonised to the temperature of 930 °C inside a special retort. During the process, volatile fractions were captured for the mass balance specifications. Consequently both liquid and solid phases of the product were obtained. The evaluation for the liquid phase indicated an increase in content of aromatic hydrocarbons except naphthalene, 1-methylnaphthalene and 2- methylnaphthalene, as well as an increase of aromaticity. Obtained mesophase showed the differences in a rate of anisotropy.
