The global economic size is estimated to be in the order of USD30.5 Trillion in the year 2002. The global economic growth trend is currently around 1-% per annum. The silver lining to the current economic scenario is a 3% growth trend in Asia Pacific including Japan. However, the economic slowdown in the USA, growing Balance of Payment (BOP) deficit, irregular consumer spending and slowing down of business investments are the receding growth indicators in USA for the time being. Strengthening fundamentals in Western Europe, improvements in Asian economy and continued recovery in Latin America and Russia are the features of global economic scenario. International trade is currently estimated at USD6 trillion and is expected to strengthen further with the ongoing global economic reforms. The role of WTO is a catalyst in economic and trade reforms.
