The aim of this study is to clarify the feasibility of a high-speed (30000 rpm) centrifugal pump in a low pressure water hydraulic systems. Other important aspects which are studied are the need for a pressure relief valve, means to control both the pressure and the flow rate and the dynamic properties of the pump. Also vital aspects are the static characteristics of the centrifugal pump. They are different than the characteristics of a hydrostatic pump. The operating point (pressure and flow) can be controlled with an electric frequency converter. Measurements and simulation results of the system are presented.
