In some cases CVN-toughness and BDWTT results of plates for pipes can be optimised simultaneously. However for modern steels the performance of CVN-toughness and BDWT-Test results are conflictive. An existing pre calculation tool was improved which takes into account chemical composition and process parameters incorporating rolling and cooling process. With the help of such an existing pre calculation tool as an example the advantage of a higher slab thickness regarding further optimisation of the BDWTT-properties was predicted. The existing pre calculation tool will be described and the results of application on some plate orders and trials of different grades and thickness will be reported.
