Angang in 1998 started an intensive renovation project to bring their SMP No. 2 to an internationally advanced level. Centerpiece of this plant is the medium-thin slab casting and direct rolling facility. This paper introduces the reasons to select this modern technology, the implementation of the project, the start-up and operating results as well as the presently executed project to install a second casting machine.
