Multistage interconnection networks (Banyan networks) are proposed as connections in multiprocessor systems or in high-bandwidth network switches. There exist numerous analytical models for performance evaluation for these networks. This paper presents a model which offers a performance measure (in addition to mean throughputs and delay times) that is considered important in real-time communications scenarios: distribution of delay times. The model utilizes the structure of multistage interconnection networks (MINs) to implement an efficient routing of multicast packets. It allows to choose an arbitrary network size, arbitrary buffer sizes, an arbitrary network input rate and an arbitrary (but uniform) multicast traffic pattern.
