The composition of natural gas strongly varies with its origin. Since the pecuniary value of natural gas is measured by energy, accurate gas quality measurement (GQM) is necessary for energy billing and its importance will even grow due to the general deregulation of gas markets. The quality parameters of natural gas can be determined by a detailed composition analysis, measured by gas chromatography. Alternatively the gas quality can also be described by data from calorimeters, density meters and NDIR measurement of CO{sub}2. The investment costs of gas quality measurement sites based on current techniques is in the range of 100 k?, thus GQM is a domain of gas transportation companies.
