Fine particles in the range up to several nanometers are frequently used in industry because of their large specific surface. Difficulties could occur in working with nano-powders for some of their negative characteristics: large tendency to form agglomerates, small bulk density, bad flowing characteristics and general characteristics that cause problems with transport or storage. These problems could, however, be overcome by the instantization process spray freezing or spray drying. Powdered systems like these, whether they are native or agglomerated are often mechanically redispersed in aqueous environment. The aim of this study is to explain the effect of ultrasound and rotor-stator-systems on the dispersion of nano-sized solid particles.
