Different methods of simulating real life conditions have been tried in the laboratory. The main focus has been on humidity, type of particulate contaminant, and chemical resistance. Different nonwoven media for cabin air filtration have been compared using these simulated conditions. The results show that media performance is affected by changing the test conditions. In addition, the nonwoven cabin air media performed differently during the testing probably resulting from the original technology of media manufacture. Wet laid nonwovens showed interesting results regarding pressure drop increase compared to spunbond/meltblown combination media. This may be a result of the more adapted internal pore structure possible during wet laid media formation.
