The European Commission (EC) at the time of writing supports atmospheric research mainly within the key action on Global Change, Climate and Biodiversity of the 5th Framework Programme (FP) 1999-2003. The content of the work programme on atmospheric composition change is based on a strategic document which was prepared through the EC Science Panels on Atmospheric Research and Stratospheric Ozone and was published in November 1997 (AIRES, Megie et al.).
