Trials revealed that intercropping with mint (Mentha arvensis L.) variety ' Asia 39' in young apple orchards gave markedly greater economic and ecological benefits over conventional intercropping patterns. The 3- to 5-year-old 'Red Fuji' apple trees receiving mint to be interplanted gave 31230 kg ha~(-1) fruit more over the control for 3 years.
