In addition to the primary stabilizing action of Hindered Amine Light Stabilizing(HALS)compounds,secondary effects often play a key role in selecting the best stabilizer for a given application.In general,the lower the interaction with other co-additives or substances in the processing or end-use environment,the better the stabilizing properties can be.The range of oligomeric HALS compounds is almost as varied as their possible applications.Users are often faced with the problem of selecting the right product for a given end use.Much has already been written about the stabilizing action of different HALS compounds.For this reason,the following paper reports less on the very good stabilizing action of these products and more on the positive secondary properties that can differentiate a product from the wide variety on the market and offer specific advantages to the user.The widespread use of the oligomeric HALS stabilizer Uvinul 5050H(Figure 1)shows that its effectiveness as a radical scavenger and light stabilizer is undisputed.Some of the positive secondary effects of this product are described below.
