High pressure light sources: metal halide lamps and sodium discharge lamps are nowadays commonly used for illumination of roads, streets, stadiums and rooms. They have high coefficient of colours turn over, high light efficiency and long life. One of the method of increase working reliability, and life of discharge lamps is applications full electronic stabilised-ignition circuits supply from main, replaced classical inductive ballast and starter. This circuit is the electronic ballast. Contemporary stabilised - ignition circuits some exclusively electronic, and more often realised in thick-film technology. The paper contains the results of research works carried out in Private Institute of Electronic Engineering together with Technical School of Communications and Cracow Electronic Works. The works were dedicated for elaboration new microelectronic thick-film ballasts for discharge lamps. Electronic circuits used and technologies of hybrid modules with application of specific integrated circuits (ASICs) are discussed. To perform the microelectronic ballasts, thick-film technology and surface mount technology were used. There are presented advanced technologies of assembling and packaging. The development perspectives of such domain of hybrid circuits are also discussed.
