During the last decade, increased attention and awareness has been focused on non-point sources of pollution. Agriculture in general, and animal agriculture in particular, has come under ever-closer scrutiny from our neighbors, representatives, regulators, activist groups and the public in general concerning the impact of our operations on the environment. The poultry community (i.e., growers, integrators, Extension and University scientists) has made tremendous efforts during this time to ensure that our products are safe, wholesome goods produced in an environmentally balanced manner. All members of the poultry community have responded to these non-point source pollution concerns in a significant way. Evidence is now available that suggests theseefforts have been very successful indeed. These efforts have defined an "environmental stewardship" ethic that is understood and practiced throughout the industry.
