Challenges in Transitioning to the 2006 Edition of SNT-TC-001A

"The only thing that is constant is change." The fact that the guidance documents that govern our industry are in constant revision is one that we all live with; it takes considerable effort to keep pace with, and is sometimes a point of disagreement and conflict with colleagues, management, customers, and oversight agencies. One of these changes was the issuance of ASNT's Recommended Practice No. SNT-TC-1A, 2006 Edition. There were significant changes in this document from previous editions, and those changes had far-reaching effects. This has led to confusion, frustration, and reluctance to accept the new edition on the part of many people in our industry. In this paper, I'd like to examine four particular changes, and the ramifications of those changes.
